About Greendale

Greendale is a not-for-profit, mutual trading company owned by a group of over 100 independent flooring retailers located throughout the UK and Northern Ireland

With its warehouse capacity of 2800 rolls and unrivalled buying power, Greendale believe in giving its members the very best prices up front.

Better prices, better margins, better profits.

Who We Are And What We Do

Greendale Carpets and Floorings were formed in 1962, when several retailers joined forces to gain better prices from manufacturers.   This initiative proved successful and more retailers wanted to become part of it. The initial group of retailers (The Green Group) used their own money in to start the business, so every subsequent retailer wishing to join, also buys a ‘share’ of the business. Hence, we are a member owned cooperative. The group discovered that to get the best prices from suppliers you needed to buy in bulk, and that meant rolls of carpet. In 2000, the group (now Greendale Carpets & Floorings) purchased a purpose- built warehouse and office. Today, Greendale have the capacity to stock up to 2,800 rolls. This buying power ensures our members get the best prices and can pass those deals onto their customers.

Stocked Warehouse

No other buying group in the UK offers this kind of buying power and the benefits that go with it; lower price for bulk buying, stock exclusively for use of Greendale members, on-site customer service personnel, full cutting and sample service.

Suppliers

Established in 1962, we have a long history of collaborating with some of the biggest names in the carpet and flooring sector, working in partnership with a comprehensive list of first class suppliers:

'As a British manufacturer of premium colour and style led wool carpet, it is imperative that the retailer can convey technical information and features & benefits of our product and Greendale members in general are very good at conveying this information. The result is that many Greendale members are great trading partners with us'
Steve Glover
Sales Director, Brockway Carpets

'It’s our great pleasure to work with such a dynamic and forward-thinking organisation; from new product development to customer service, we feel part of the team'
Jonathan Gamble
Sales & Marketing Director, Penthouse Carpets

'Associated Weavers have had the pleasure of working with Greendale Carpets for many years, they are a very professional organisation who understand the needs of both retailers and manufacturers. The Greendale team are very knowledgeable about the flooring industry and are committed to building strong and long lasting relationships with their members. Our strong mutual relationship means they are an invaluable partner to our business who embrace new ideas and developments in this ever changing environment'
Stephen Kaye
UK Retail Sales Director, Associated Weavers

Corporate / Social Responsibility

Greendale continue to put the ‘Green’ into carpet buying groups and we constantly seek new ways to improve

  • In 2010, we installed solar panels onto the roof of our head office and warehouse. This has resulted in us being able to generate enough electricity to run our offices through most of the year and send energy back into the grid.
  • We have installed two balers in our warehouse to compact our waste cardboard and plastics, both of which are sent to be recycled, reducing our waste to landfill.
  • Our cardboard tubes are made from recycled cardboard and can be recycled again.
  • We no longer send discontinued carpet samples to landfill, instead upcycling them to be used by local charities to raise money for good causes.
  • Our discontinued carpets, that are over a certain age are now sent to The Salvation Army to be used by those most in need, including homeless shelters and social housing projects.
  • Our stands can be recycled, right down to the display bars. We recently took over 2,500 bars back to a manufacturer to be reused on new stands.
  • We are upcycling our used tombola display units. They are being resprayed and refurbished and put back into our member shops.
  • We aim to send our discontinued polypropylene carpets back to be recycled into new PP in pellet form.
  • Greendale Carpets are members of Carpet Recycling UK, a not-for-profit organisation committed to reducing the amount of carpet waste to landfill.
  • In 2023, Greendale will divert nearly 20 tonnes of waste away from landfill into recycling projects

Greendale History

In 1998, Greendale decided that to continue to offer its members the best prices, it would need to buy in even more quantity and that meant full rolls of carpet.

A site was sourced, just outside of Hereford, and work began on our purpose-built warehouse and offices. In 2000, we opened Greendale House and had the ability to purchase in bulk. Such was our success, that by 2012, the warehouse was extended to a capacity of up to 2,800 rolls of carpet.

No other buying group in the UK offers this kind of buying power and the benefits that go with it; lower price for bulk buying, stock exclusively for use of Greendale members, on-site customer service personnel, full cutting and sample service.

At Greendale, we believe in giving our members the very best prices up front.
Better prices, better margins, better profits.
